Intense Motorsports Maui, Inc. first opened its doors on December 5th, 2003, as a father and son team. Leslie Garcia, a retired firefighter from the Kahului Airport, had always dreamed of having his own business. He finally decided to go into business with his son Matt. They loved the automotive industry and looked forward to working on various projects together.

In the early days, IMM took on every complicated and small project.  We started in a small facility. We sold whatever we could: t-shirts, air fresheners, European / imported performance parts. In our first year, we also offered mounting and balancing services.

Matt met his future wife and business partner Tina soon after opening. Tina came from an automotive family, the daughter of a long-time Maui mechanic. Tina eventually left her retail job to join the IMM team, becoming a full partner. Jareth, Tina’s brother, and auto import enthusiast, joined the team in 2004.

Matt’s brother Mike joined IMM in 2006. Mike also worked alongside his father, Leslie growing up and had decided he wanted to be a part of the family business. Mike quickly found his area of expertise by working on the installations with his father while the company grew.

Reluctantly, Matt traded in his s2000 car for a Dodge truck to better suit the needs of the business. This also was a stepping stone for IMM to work jointly with Island Dodge. On January 2nd, 2010, Leslie Garcia passed away. Brokenhearted, IMM was at a crossroads.

Matt, Tina, and Mike decided to dig their heels in. It took everything they had learned to push forward and not give up. They knew that Leslie wouldn’t want to see everything they had worked for lost after years of sacrifice. For IMM, the path to success was hard-earned. It means everything for us not to falter in our dedication to serving our customers.

We now boast a 14,000-square-foot location, Maui’s most impressive arsenal of equipment, and a hyper-specialized team.
